In modern phones and laptops, energy sources are lithium-ion batteries.
They provide autonomous work for a certain time. However, if the question arises of the need for a large supply of energy, they are losing. Recently, scientists made forecasts that in the near future, technology users will gain access to more environmentally friendly options for batteries – sodium – ionic.
They are not only safer, but also much cheaper because of the availability of the main component-sodium. However, before sodium – ion batteries will go on sale, it is necessary to resolve many issues.
What technologies underlie the batteries of the future? A hard substrate that is present in existing batteries, due to its fragility, is not able to withstand the shrinkage and swelling of the cathodes and anodes. To increase strength, scientists decided to use wood fibers that use capillary forces to transfer sodium ions from soil to leaves.
To strengthen electrical conductivity, scientists decided to cover the sliver with a thin layer of single -layer nanotubes made of carbon and tin film. Strong mechanical stress is neutralized by soft wood fibers.
