Is it possible to grow a beautiful garden on a site with sandy soil? Undoubtedly! You just need to choose the appropriate plants and carefully prepare the soil before planting.

If the land in the garden is sandy and dry, it is better to refuse to grow whimsical plants and plant species, the natural habitat of which is dry regions. With such places, purity (hare cabbage) is most often associated with such places. For sandy soils, this is what you need! But there are many other plants that can grow and not on very fertile soils (see. tables). In the design of such areas, it is also worth using annual plants. They grow quickly and soon decorate the garden with numerous bright colors. On dry soils grow well: marigolds, dymorphothek hybrid, cosmia cosmia, mac of California, medical calendula, nasturtium is large, coarse -color portulance, Iberis umbrella’s umbrella. For landing in sandy soil, plants are suitable for sold in containers. Their roots for some time after planting use organic substances from the soil, which is filled with a flower container. This helps them easier to adapt to new, more complex habitats.

Before the garden appears

Most plant varieties on sandy soils grow well. Primarily because they are often dry. In fertile soil, the water and mineral elements are held due to small silty particles (clay soil) or humus (its source is peat, deciduous or component forest soil). Sand soil does not have these properties. It is permeable, which is why it quickly dries after watering, and soil waters in it hardly pull up upward. In addition, sandy soil is not bad. It contains little minerals necessary for plants. Even if we add mineral fertilizers contained in them soon are rinsed with water from the upper layer deep into the limits of the roots of plants. Therefore, before planting plants, it is worth improving the structure of the soil.

This can be done by digging such a soil with a five -centimeter layer of clay scattered on the surface. It is also worth using green fertilizers – sow plants that form a large number of stems and leaves, and then dig the ground (to a small depth) with them. After that, they will quickly decompose, turning into a valuable fertilizer. Before planting plants, you can scatter and slightly mixed with the ground Azophoska (universal complex fertilizer) – 30 UAH.

As green fertilizers, it is best to use legumes. They not only improve the structure of the soil, but also increase the amount of nitrogen contained in it. Bacteria forms nitrogen on the roots of these plants and convert nitrogen (obtained from the atmosphere) to compounds suitable for assimilation by plants.

On sandy soils, you can sow yellow lupine, a mixture of lupine and seradella (an annual plant with strongly consuming, thin stems glued to the ground about 50 cm long) or a mixture of field peas and wiki (perennial herbaceous plant). Plants mowing at the beginning of flowering. Then they dig them so that air can enter the decaying stems and leaves. Only in this case the fertilizer is quality. If you sow green fertilizers in July or early August, they will have time to grow, and you can dig them for the winter. And in the spring – to sow or plant decorative plants. If you are not in a hurry with the creation of the garden, then in the spring of next year it is worth sowing green fertilizers again, and postpon the laying of the garden until the fall.

Sand care

Sand soil must be regularly improved by introducing organic fertilizers, as they increase the content of valuable humus. Thanks to its presence, the soil becomes more fertile and absorbs more water. The best fertilizer is compost.

It can be made annually – in the spring or autumn. Layer of compost (approximately 2 cm thick) is laid around the plants and slightly mixed with the soil. Also on sandy soils it is worth using mineral fertilizers. The best – so -called slow. Mineral compounds contained in them enter the soil gradually, as they consume them with plants. You can use multicomponent fertilizers.

Attention! For sandy soils, you should always choose the minimum (from the recommended by the manufacturer) a dose of fertilizers. It is better to divide it into 2-3 portions and make in parts for approximately two weeks.
