Previously, Europe was very carefully prepared by the end of the world and was not particularly worried about life. In speech and these conditions there was no about that in order to form something for centuries. But the 1000th year came, later than the 1001st, 2nd … 5th … 10th … And the sun did not fade, the flame of the wrath of the Lord did not destroy the sinners, and the archangels did not upgrade ..
And later it came – the repair boom. Churches were erected in European countries one after another. One of the beautiful architects of that era is the Speyer Cathedral.
Its cathedral was built by decree of Emperor Konrad II in 1030-1061, which chose this structure as a place of his burial. Party in the cathedral, 7 more emperors and German kings were buried, many of their spouse, and also many bishops. Archbishops and burials of kings were located in the main passage in front of the altar. But over the centuries, information about the place of burial of the kings was lost. They knew that it was, but did not know very accurately where it could be. During the excavation period of 1900, the burial was found and transferred to crypts built under the altar, available for a general viewing.
The ancient structure, based on this, he needed to endure the entire European chronicle in a thousand years. He darkened, came to life, but after any disaster, unusually, the cathedral became even more beautiful. In the second half of the 80s of the 17th century, he burned the soldiers of Louis XIV to the naked walls, but after a hundred years the cathedral was restored and the facade and lobby were attached, in 1794 the French armies were again defamed, but after five decades the cathedral was very carefully returned And, in addition, they decorated his exterior with frescoes.
No matter what, the Speyer Cathedral has retained its unique image. The cathedral will remain one of the great samples of Romanesque architecture, pure and easy. And the natural simplicity, which was characteristic of churches of that era, gives the cathedral a red sandstone, from which it is built. The colonnade that goes around the entire tower of the cathedral is considered a characteristic specialty, straight under the roof.
