The Internet is often not understood, but among those who heard this concept, there are many those who strive to include it only in the framework of the phrase “smart home”. Although a smart house is only a small fraction of what the Internet is. In fact, we can talk about the puzzles for a long time, but let’s explain in simple and affordable words what it is, and where we are with this now.
1. If we build sensors in different things – wood, car, household appliances, toilet, etc. p. – Wireless communication will allow us to connect this thing to the Internet.
2. Connected to the Internet, the thing will transmit information about itself or its environment through it.
3. Connected to the Internet, a thing will be able to accept information, and it can be controlled by commands via the Internet.
This is the basic concept of the Internet of things, without one important feature. The analytical center, which process information and makes decisions, is also part of the Internet of things.
Smart House can serve as a basic example of the Internet of things. Imagine that in your house all things are doors, windows, air conditioning, TV, coffee maker, etc. p. connected to the Internet using sensors. You control all things through your tablet. However, you can also entrust the analytical program in your tablet management of all these things yourself, making the house… smart (understand where the name?). Information analysis is the most difficult component of truly smart home. Of course, it’s not difficult now to install a team on the device like “Thirty minutes before my arrival home to start heating the room” and set the time for your arrival home. It is more difficult to make the program understand your schedule, calculate your position, analyze your activity and based on these data, include heating at home. Although this is not problematic, so there are so many gadgets of a smart house now. There are even smart robots that can crawl according to your home and command your household appliances, analyzing your activity. The cameras are triggered and send a signal to your smartphone, the blinds are closed when sunlight enters, the coffee maker turns on the alarm clock, etc. p.
But the Smart House system is one direction of the Internet of things. Moreover, many things in the Smart House systems do not require complex analytical programs, so they are easier to create and sell to the audience. And there is also a “smart city”. This direction to one degree or another is realized at different points in the world. Very slowly and very partially. For example, the lanterns along the streets that turn on, turn off or shine with a certain degree of brightness based on the analysis of the environment using sensors and the general center of information analysis, which draws conclusions about the need to give backlight. There are projects that they want to implement with the help of sensors, but this requires complex analytical programs and accurate sensors. For example, in California, where cities suffer from drought, it may make sense to “fall asleep” all the sensors that will turn on and turn off the orpers only when it is absolutely necessary. And imagine how economically it would be to use the Internet of things even with such simple tasks as garbage collection. If the sensors collect information about the fullness of the tanks, as well as provide the most functional routes for collecting garbage, then the cars do not have to come to a point where there is nothing to pick up, which means that energy and gasoline will not be wasted.
The Internet of things is the future. Cheap sensors can be placed everywhere – from buildings to pockets of people. The tasks of these sensors can be different – some will help you find a parking lot on the “flooded” street in seconds, while others will save the life of a lost tourist.
