Everything new is well forgotten old. This also applies to coating the roof of a straw or reed. This is how our ancestors protected the roof, and today this technology is used, for example, for separate baths with hammam.
If you decide to make such a bathhouse and cover it with reeds, then keep in mind that a lot will be required, because the roof thickness will reach 25-35 cm, and the weight can be almost 12 tons. In addition, it must be borne in mind that in the absence of auditory windows, the slope of the roof should be more than 30 degrees, if there are more than 45.
The collected stems of reeds must be sorted by length and collected in sheaves. Then, on a wooden crate of the roof, you need to screw the screws on which a long wire made of galvanized steel is fixed. Then the sheaves of stems 1.5-2 m long are laid and fixed with wire, after which they are cut so that the reeds are “fluffed” and evenly distributed at the base of the roof. Next, the following layers of reeds are laid. To seal the reeds and give the roof, the stems are neatly knocked out from below, while displacing the brush up, giving the roof roundness. Since reeds binds with steel rods, the coating is reliable and even the strongest wind can withstand.
The reed roofing is thick and waterproof, and the depth of precipitation does not exceed 5 centimeters. In addition, Kamysh is simply by nature resistant to high humidity, so it is not afraid of snow or rain, and its service life can be decades.
When the work on laying reeds is completed, the resulting roof is treated with fireproof impregnation, but this procedure cannot be carried out on rainy and cold days.
